Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich

I have a good job that meets our basic needs very well.  But like most of us, I find that there are many things that we cannot do because we do not have enough money.

So many times I get worked up about this and think about getting a second job or working harder and more hours so I can get promoted faster.  Today I was reading Proverbs chapter 23.  Here is a section that really stands out to me:

Proverbs 23:
4 Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich.
Be wise enough to know when to quit.
5 In the blink of an eye wealth disappears,
      for it will sprout wings
and fly away like an eagle.

While it is important to work hard and to be excellent at what I do, it is equally important to take time to rest and to not over work.  I think verse five is a reminder that wealth is only an illusion of security.  It can disappear all too quickly.

Take a little time today to relax!
